If you are a new trekker, it is good to take a 5-day trek on mountains whose altitudes are only around 2,000 meters. Fly to Pro International Airport and spend 1 hour transferring to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan with your tour guide. Visit Kuensel Phodrang, National Memorial Chorten, Takin Preserve, Tashichhoe Dzong and a local craft bazaar after checking in your hotel.
Spend 2.5 hours driving from Thimphu to Punakha through the Dochula Pass, admiring the 108 chortens and Himalaya Mountain ranges on your way. Visit Druk Wangyal Lhakhang, where there are beautiful murals depicting historical events of Bhutan before arriving in Punakha. Learn more about Bhutan’s history, arts and religions in Chimi Lhakhang and Punakha Dzong. Drive back to Thimphu to stay overnight after the end of today’s sightseeing.
Today, you will start trekking from Sang Choekhor Village, whose altitude is 2900 meters. After visiting the small Lhakhang in the village, you will hike upwards along the mountain path. The sceneries of ancient forests and views of Himalaya ranges will make your hike colorful and interesting. Finally, you will reach the 3,900-meter-high Bumdrak Monastery, a perfect place for camping and admiring sunset.
Unlike yesterday’s ascending, today’s route is downwards. After 2 hours’ hiking, you will reach the Sangtopelri Garden, which means paradise on earth in Bhutanese language. The Taktsang Monastery, your final destination for this hike, is visible from the Sangtopelri Garden. However, you still need around 1 more hour to reach the monastery, who is nicknamed “Tiger Nest”. You will be transferred to Paro after finish today’s hike.
