The Thimphu festival, which is one of the Biggest Festivals in Bhutan, brings together people from all over the country to honour Guru Rinpoche, the saint who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. This Festival dates back to 1857 when it was established by the Fourth Desi, Gyalse Tenzin Rabgye.
The festival features various mask dances performed by lay monks and jesting by Atsaras. The sacred Throngdroel of Guru Rinpoche is unfurled on the last day of the Tsechu, It is believed that these who are fortunate enough to view the Throngdoel will receive blessings and accumulate good merit Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Thimphu. Thimphu festival 2025

Thimphu festival in 2025 fall on a October 2nd through October 4th. The three days festivals will bring in lot of people from within Thimphu and people from nearby districts. Men and women will come dressed in their Sunday best. It’s a time to relax and enjoy for the locals.

What to see or do during the Thimphu festival?

Thimphu tshechu is a good time to intermingle with the locals, You can sit for a lunch with the locals or even sit with a family to take pictures. This is a very good time for people who love to take photographs. The dresses of the people are so colourful. Some of dresses people wear are as much as US$1500, Some of the dresses are a heirloom which have been passed down several generations
The festival is filled with religious mask dances and folk dances. You will love the scene during the festival

Thimphu Tshechu

Thimphu Tshechu Festival is the biggest festival in the country. It is held in the capital city in Thimphu at Tashichodzong.  Tsechus are one of the best ways to experience the ancient living culture of Bhutan. These three days festival occurs during the month of September and October as per the Buddhist calendar. This festival attracts the maximum local people as well as tourists all over the world.
