About Paro Tshechu Festival
Paro Tshechu is one of Bhutan’s most important religious festivals. It is held annually at the historic Rinpung Dzong in Paro.
The 2027 festival is scheduled for 18–22 March 2027. It brings together local people and visitors to celebrate Bhutanese Buddhist culture and traditions.
During the festival, monks and performers wear colourful costumes and masks to perform sacred dances known as Cham. These dances tell stories about Buddhist teachings, the victory of good over evil, and the protection of the Dharma.
The main attraction is the unveiling of the giant sacred silk tapestry called the Guru Thongdrel on the final morning. Many Bhutanese believe that seeing this sacred image brings blessings and spiritual purification.
The festival is also an excellent opportunity to photograph traditional Bhutanese clothing, enjoy local food, experience Bhutanese hospitality and observe centuries-old religious customs. https://paro.gov.bt/festivals/annual-paro-tsechu/
