Day 1 – Arrival in Paro and Drive to Thimphu
Overnight: Thimphu
Arrive at Paro International Airport, where your guide and driver will welcome your family. Enjoy the scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. Depending on your arrival time, visit Buddha Dordenma, a giant golden Buddha statue overlooking the valley. Take a relaxed walk and enjoy your first evening in Bhutan.
Day 2 – Explore Thimphu
Overnight: Thimphu
Visit the National Memorial Chorten and Tashichho Dzong. Explore local handicraft shops and discover traditional Bhutanese arts and crafts, subject to opening hours. Visit other family-friendly attractions according to your interests. Enjoy a relaxed evening at your hotel.
Day 3 – Thimphu to Punakha
Overnight: Punakha
Drive across Dochula Pass, stopping to enjoy the 108 chortens and mountain views when the weather is clear. Continue to Punakha and visit Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful fortresses. Enjoy the riverside scenery and settle into your hotel.
Day 4 – Punakha Valley
Overnight: Punakha
After breakfast, visit Chimi Lhakhang, reached by a gentle walk through villages and rice fields. Enjoy the countryside and learn about traditional Bhutanese village life. Depending on your family’s interests, visit a suspension bridge or enjoy a peaceful riverside walk. The afternoon is free for relaxation.
Day 5 – Punakha to Gangtey and Phobjikha Valley
Overnight: Gangtey or Phobjikha
Travel to the beautiful Phobjikha Valley, a peaceful destination surrounded by mountains and forests. Visit Gangtey Monastery and enjoy the open valley views. Take a gentle walk through the countryside and experience the quieter side of Bhutan. Spend the evening enjoying the natural surroundings.
Day 6 – Explore Gangtey Valley
Overnight: Gangtey or Phobjikha
Enjoy breakfast with views of the valley. Take the Gangtey Nature Trail, or choose a shorter walk if travelling with young children or older family members. Learn about local farming, traditional homes and the valley’s conservation efforts. In winter, look for black-necked cranes from designated viewing areas.
Day 7 – Gangtey to Haa Valley
Overnight: Haa Valley
Travel to Haa Valley through scenic mountain roads, with rest stops along the way. Enjoy the beautiful landscapes and traditional villages. After arrival, explore the valley at a relaxed pace and visit local temples if time permits. The long drive makes this a good day to keep sightseeing light.
Day 8 – Haa Valley to Paro
Overnight: Paro
Visit Lhakhang Karpo and Lhakhang Nagpo, two important temples in Haa, before driving to Paro via Chele La Pass, subject to road and weather conditions. Stop for photographs and mountain views when safe. On arrival in Paro, explore the town or relax at your hotel.
Day 9 – Paro Sightseeing and Departure
Tour ends
Depending on your flight time, visit Paro Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum, or enjoy a final walk around Paro town. Your guide and driver will transfer your family to Paro International Airport for your departure.
